11 August Awards Given to VVA Chapter 559 GCI August 11, 2017 By ODRC Grafton Correctional Institution (GCI), Institutions GCI, State Council Larry Frazee, Don Jones, VVA Chapter 559, Providence House, Valor Home Lorain 0 State delegates from Buckeye State Council Larry Frazee and Don Jones came to GCI’s Veterans Unit and presented two awards to VVA Chapter 559. The first award was for being chapter of the year in Ohio for which they have won three of the five years since Sgt. Roberts took over as adviser. The chapter is very active in donations to outside veteran organizations and outside community support along with providing community service to various organizations. Their most recent award was from Providence House where they were given Community Service Support Volunteer of the Year for their work in supporting homeless women and children. They also gave the associate member of the year, which is an individual award to Resident Abbruzino for his work within the chapter, ODR and the knitting program that he supports in the veterans unit. Most recently they knitted hygiene bags and filled them with items for Valor Home in Lorain and delivered them as a donation for the men that live there and for the homeless veterans on the street.
