20 June LorCI's First Crisis Intervention Team Meeting June 20, 2018 By ODRC Institutions, Lorain Correctional Institution (LorCI) LorCI, Crisis Intervention Team, Mental Illness, De-escalation Skills, Communication 0 Lorain Correctional Institution held its first Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) training. This is a five day training that covers numerous topics about the signs and symptoms of mental illness in adults, substance abuse and mental illness, de-escalation skills, family and consumer panels and role playing scenarios. Through this training staff obtain skills to use when they respond to a person with mental illness. It teaches them how to get a mentally ill person help within our facilities as well as active listening skills which are a valuable tool for communicating with offenders, staff and families. Our goal is to have at least 30% of our institutional staff certified as more and more mentally ill offenders are coming into the correctional setting.
